Your Love Won't Abandon My Soul

Based on Psalm 139

Written by Elton Smith, Steve Israel and Larry Holder

I wrote the music then read Psalm 139. Larry, Steve and I tried to capture the essence and tone of David's writing. Rhesa Siregar made the musical accompaniment using Peruvian wind instruments and David's harp. Belén Mariscotti sang our song. - Elton, April 2025

Lyrics

(Verse 1)
You have called me and know me
When I sit and when I rise
And the hope of my soul I see clearly in your eyes
If I rise up to heaven
I will feel your open arms
For your love won't abandon my soul

(Chorus 1)
Though I fall to the depths of the sea
Still I find you are there
Should I soar to the heavens so high
Even so, I will feel your loving care

(Verse 2)
For your light is eternal
And your presence without end
You discern all my folly,
My neglect, my secret sin
Though I hide from your presence,
I can never break away
For your love won't abandon my soul

(Chorus 2)
I will live for you all of my days
High or low, you are there
You are worthy of all of my praise
Evermore, I will know your loving care

(Solo)

(Verse 3)
You have searched me and know me,
In my heart and in my mind
May I follow your banner,
Leaving all this world behind
You are right here beside me,
In the dark and in the day
For your love won't abandon my soul

Eve Ray2025-04-29I absolutely love this Elton! Psalm 139 has always comforted me in a way that no other Scripture does. Her voice is perfectually matched to the way the song flows. The instruments are outstanding bringing God's Word her voice, the music arrangement all together for a wonderful experience. I'm going to put this on my web site it's so pretty.
Elton2025-04-17I wrote the lyrics for the first verse to this song and went to bed humming the melody. But I couldn't sleep and the melody kept playing in my mind. Eventually, the first chorus lyrics came to me, so I got up and wrote them down. After I went back to bed, the second verse came to me. I got up and wrote it down too, but decided that was enough. Sleep can be an elusive thing.
